Communication Breakdown: Oregon Trail Style Heading Into Our 6th Year

Dear most holy reader,

It’s been almost a year to the day that we last posted content on this site!  Who could possibly calculate the Hail Mary’s that suggests, but maybe you noticed our name popping up on other sites in the meantime and our disgrace can be forgiven.  We spent the last year doing some higher profile coverage and working with Frederick News Post’s new music blog, Frederick Playlist to help them get started. We also wrote articles for the Frederick Gorilla, shot photos at some cool music festivals, and interviewed a whole lot of nationally touring bands.

We rose to the challenge, stepped up our skills and our gear, and killed it every chance we got! You can peep so much of that great content on our Tumblr site.  It was a fun adventure, but in the close of our 5th consecutive year, it’s time to transform once again.  After all, to quote one of the great unknown who come up with the humanity saving inspirational quips we all know and love… “Change is the essence of life”!

Frederick Playlist is well on their way as being the prime promotional outlet for Frederick musicians. They don’t need us any more and in the process of taking a step back we realized how much we actually miss talking to Frederick’s emerging artists.  So from here on out we’re thoroughly embracing our grass roots DIY ethos. We believe in helping Frederick create safe environments where interaction is encouraged, growth as a musician is encouraged, and where creativity is not initially judged on stereotypes, popularity, or profit.  We also believe in creating a network of people and places to help younger musicians find the resources they need and educate themselves about the music industry if they so choose, and simply expose them to a healthy creative environment instead of an immediately competitive one that forces them to conform to what's popular and devalues their artistry.

In short, we believe in the sanctity of creating music, working together, and trying to have some fun rock shows in your mom’s basement. To quote an equally humanity saving quip, by the uber known… “You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one”.  – John Lennon.  Let us know if you want to help!

We’ve always been about encouraging diversity and exposing our audiences to new boundary pushing modern music being created in Baltimore, DC, and Frederick alike.  We are a primordial mixing bowl or more accurately, “bucket” of sound.  We’ve said it before, local isn’t so much a place on a map, but a place of existence where great bands are born.

We’ll still bring you plenty of photos of your local favorites, several of whom we see playing shows in Baltimore, DC, and beyond! We’ll still bring you weekly tid bits on Facebook of interesting new “local” artists.  And who knows what other opportunities we’ll have to bring you unique content!

We’ll still bring you written content as well, but we’re moving our blog site from our original location on the FNP website.  It’s bitter sweet to leave our first home, a place that was so entirely critical to our mission in 2009 and provided us an anchor in a sea of blogs on the world wide web.  It’s no longer necessary though because of the amazing persistent work of many in the community to raise awareness about the local music scene!

We’re leaving the nest, taking our chances out in the world wide wilderness, and following our free will Oregon Trail style.  Hopefully, we don’t die of dysentery. Gross.

Now, on to more key punching about local music.  Check out our BlogSpot website frequently! New adventures are always just a click away at Bucket of Rock Blog.
