Communication Breakdown: Artomatic Is Coming!

The weekend of October 1st this year will mark the first ever Artomatic in Frederick . What is Artomatic you ask? Only the biggest community arts event Frederick has ever seen headlined by a weekend of great local music acts. Artomatic is a concept that began in Washington, DC in 1999 and has stayed mostly a local concept except for a few independent off shoots. A local frederick artist and citizen, Steven Dobbin was inspired by the DC event and decided to organize his own artomatic, Artomatic@Frederick . Read more about Dobbin’s vision here . What’s most awesome about Artomatic@Frederick from Bucket Blogger’s perspective is that the event will host six consecutive weekends of live bands. With so many weekends to choose from, I want to point out that you really, really, really do not want to miss the first weekend (sep 30 – oct 1). Friday night kicks off with pop rock duo Judd and Maggie . Then Baltimore folk rock Minimus The Poet takes over. The night closes with the one-two punch of highly acclaimed local favorites Lucas and the Lovelys from Hagerstown and Old Liners from Frederick . Old Liners are really growing into their new songs, I saw them open for Frontier Ruckus last week and they were as smooth and fresh as a baby’s bottom. Saturday night opens with performances from the Frederick Rock School , which is raising some pretty talented youngsters these days. I caught a few Frederick Rock Schooler’s including the under 16 band Unavailable at In The Streets this year. Then things get a little psycho killer diving heavy into some rock with Violent Mustache (Mount Airy/ Indie rock), Blue Veins, Old Indian (Frederick/ alternative blues rock), and The Handsome Creatures (Frederick/ intelligent jam rock).
